Noticky Children Folklore Ensemble (Revnice, Czech Republic)
|
Notičky, or Little Notes, is a children‘s folk group which plays traditional Czech folk songs. It was founded in 1998 in the small town of Řevnice, just southwest of Prague. Its repertory contains more than 400 songs, mainly from the area around Prague and from the west and southwest of the Czech Republic. It took Notičky only a short time to gain recognition both at home and abroad. The group has played at many festivals including the Czech Prague Heart of Nations Festival, the Strážnice and Luhačovice folk festivals, three appearances at the World-Fest in Branson, Missouri, and two at the Festival of Nations in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Other memorable performances include a concert for Britain‘s Princess Royal and Christmas concerts at Prague’s arguably most famous concert hall, the Rudolfinum. Notičky has so far produced four CDs. Notičky is a very family-oriented organization. The group was founded by violinist and violin teacher Lenka Kolářová, whose daughter Barbora, the winner of several international violin competitions and now a violin student at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, was the first lead violin of the group. After moving overseas, Barbora was replaced by her sister Kristýna, who studies violin at a conservatory in Prague. Notičky comprises more than 50 musicians aged 3-20, many of whom have become masters in their own right under the watchful eyes of the group leaders, Lenka Kolářová and Pavla Petrová. The children perform in traditional Czech costumes and play violins, recorders, clarinets, double basses, French horns, bagpipes and percussion instruments.
